Details
This listing is for 35g of extra pure (99% min. purity) Sodium Hydroxide as pearls (chemical formula NaOH), also known as Caustic Soda.
I am an industrial chemist by trade and I have formulated a high grade of Sodium Hydroxide.
Uses
- Unblocking drains when mixed with water
- In Soap making where it is known as ‘Lye’
- Titration experiments in the laboratory
- An industrial degreaser
- Paper making
Directions to unblock a sink/drain: Wear eye protection and protective gloves. To a clean container, an old plastic bucket is very good, add about 250ml (about ½ pint) of cold water. Slowly add 10g (about ½ ounce) of sodium hydroxide, pearl by pearl and stir with a plastic rod. If the sodium hydroxide is added to quickly it will form a clump which is difficult to dissolve. The solution will get warm. After all the sodium hydroxide has dissolved, take the warm solution and pour down the blocked sink or drain. Leave for 5 mins then try a little cold water to see if the sink/drain is unblocked. If not, use a plunger to gently help the mixing process, leave 5mins. If still blocked, then repeat the process. After the blockage is clear, run plenty of cold water through the system to wash out all the remaining sodium hydroxide solution. Sodium hydroxide binds to the fats which generally block sinks/drains, allowing them to dissolve into water and hence free the blockage.
Packaging
The sodium hydroxide will be in a double resealable, thick gauge bag for easy use and strength. The material will be sent in a strong jiffy bag.
Health and Safety
I hold an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for this material and it is available on request as a pdf file which I will send to you. All my products come with the appropriate labels indicating correct handling and safety.
